Easy Jeans vs. BDG Cigarette High-Rise Jean Review

For my first clothing review, I thought I'd give my thoughts on a staple item - high-waisted jeans. I reviewed two pairs I recently bought: American Apparel Easy Jeans in Black, and BDG Cigarette High-Rise Jeans in Indigo. 

American Apparel Easy Jean in Black:

Simple, hardly any detail. No front pockets, however they do have belt loops and a single button.

I was hesitant to order the Easy Jeans online because I was unsure on what size to purchase, with some customers suggesting to go down a size if you're in-between. However, I decided to order a Medium and the fit was surprising. When I first put them on I noticed a few things: the material is thin and stretchy, feeling more like a jegging than anything. In addition, the waist-hip ratio seemed off. Normally, I'm a 27 in jeans, and always have the issue of the waist being too big and the thigh area being tighter. However, with these jeans, I had the opposite problem! The waist was tight at first (loosened up after a few wears), and the legs fit normally. I found this to be very peculiar.

They also smooth out any undesirable lumps or bumps.

 However, they fit well after a few wears, are amazingly comfortable, and I feel like they actually make me look slimmer than normal. The amazing combination of black and high-waisted. With the Easy Jeans retailing at $78, I'm not exactly sure these glorified leggings are worth the price for a shopper on a budget. However, with my extreme online shopping skills, I got them for around $40, which is much more acceptable. They come in 16 different colors in sizes XXS-2XL, so it's not hard to find a pair that fits comfortably.

 I've heard of people having issues with them tearing, fading, or the material wearing thin, but I haven't had them long enough to tell you about that aspect of them. I'll update if I personally have any issues. 

BDG Cigarette High-Rise Jean in Indigo:

I picked up a pair of these BDG jeans in store at an Urban Outfitters recently. They're a thin material, but aren't stretchy like the Easy Jeans. I bought a size 27 and find myself pulling them up on days when I don't wear a belt, which I don't do with the Easy Jeans either. 

BDG High-Rise Jeans are not extremely high-waisted. They sit just below the belly button.

They aren't quite as high-waisted - as you can see, my belly button is exposed in the BDG jean while not in the American Apparel jean. However, how high-waisted one likes their jeans is opinion based. These retail at $58, but Urban Outfitters often has sales that put them at $39, which is what I bought them at. They're an affordable jean that's good quality. They also look more jean-like, having standard seams, pockets, and buttons where you'd expect them. They aren't exactly as flattering as the Easy Jean because they're tight without being stretchy, but that's also up to opinion. They come in standard denim washes (dark, medium, light), as well as black and white. They come in sizes 24-32, with two different leg lengths, 30 or 34, which is also extremely helpful for those that get stuck with jeans that are scrunchy at the ankle.

Overall, if you'd like an affordable, quality pair of high-waisted jeans, I'd definitely go for a pair of BDG's. However, if you're willing to spend the money, Easy Jeans are a wonderful addition to any closet.
